It's A (Food Network) Guy Thing!

Our Cravings location is Duck has been busting at the seems this season. Perhaps it's the new look, the new bar, the new patio, or the full service lunch and dinner menu. Or perhaps it's the buzz about Cravings being featured on the Food Network's Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives. Yes, we're going to be on Triple D! Guy Fieri came to town for his Summer vacation, as well as to shoot a few episodes of Triple D and his family reunion special to be aired later this year. While the few other local restaurants that he came to shoot were lined up months in advance, ours was quite by accident, and an exceptionally fortunate one at that.

We knew he was coming to town, as we were talking with his production company a month earlier when they were looking for some assistance locally for catering the family reunion. But that that gig went to another restaurant closer to the five houses they rented in Nags Head. So we didn't think much of it until weeks later, one Thursday evening around 9PM as Cravings was closing up, in walks Guy and his crew. Seems they made a pit stop at the gas station on their way up to check in at the Sanderling. He saw our sign, and said he had to check the place out. Scott whipped up some of the house specialties, including the Seared Scallops with Lobster Sauce, and we both told him of our story. Cool little meet, and we thought that might be the end of it.

But two days later, Saturday morning, we get a call from one of his producers, asking us if we can close all day Sunday to shoot Triple D. He proceeds to tell us (as Guy did in a quite flattering pep talk just before the shoot Sunday), that this is the first time in the history of his show that they ever added a restaurant 'on the fly'. Sunday the crew started around 6AM, and the shoot finished up about 15 hours later. The segment featured Scott making his now famous Scallops, and Dan showed how to put a steamer pot together. Guy was quite enthralled with the idea of the steamer pot to pick up at the drive through!

It was and continues to be a great experience that we felt the benefits of immediately, and certainly will even more when the show airs in a few months. Thanks to all our staff and friends that took part. Looks like being attached to the gas station finally will pay off!
